Chamber
members and representatives of the
press were in attendance . Maurice
Dixon, Chairman of the Baltimore
City Chamber of Commerce explains
the initiative: “With the
encouragement of Mayor Dixon, we
have been looking for new ways to
support growth of Baltimore’s
small and minority-owned businesses.
When we heard about MarketTiger,
we realized there was a great fit.
Their service gives small businesses
a way to join a global trade network
and build their business around
the world.”
Mayor Sheila
Dixon sees the initiative as a
positive step for the local business
community: “Baltimore has
long been a key center for the
U.S. in international trade. Now
is a great time for us to build
on that history, and show the
world what our local business
community is all about –
diversity, creativity, ingenuity
and trust. This initiative is
about empowering local business
worldwide and we are proud to
be the first U.S. city.”
Paul
Taylor of the SBRC is excited
about supporting the initiative:
“Growing a business isn’t
easy, especially when it involves
new markets. As a free platform
for growth, MarketTiger gives
small businesses a simple way
to get online quickly.”
The SBRC will be the single point
of contact and support for the
initiative over the next four
months.
Michael Cant, President and Chief
Executive Officer, of MarketTiger
comments: “MarketTiger is
built specifically for small businesses.
In a matter of minutes, a company
can create a unique web page and
begin marketing without having
to deal with all the technology.
We keep it simple and free so
businesses can focus on doing
what they do best – run
their business.”
On
Baltimore as the U.S. pilot city,
Mr. Cant had this to say: “We
are excited about launching our
service here. Baltimore is the
ideal pilot city because of its
strong sense of community and
a desire to bring real solutions
to businesses. On a global stage,
Baltimore’s small businesses
stand to gain tremendously from
online trade. We are proud to
be working with Baltimore to show
the world what small business
is all about.” MarketTiger
